The defect

The stop lamp relay may stick in the ON position.

The hazard

If the stop lamp relay sticks in the ON position, the following may occur:1. The stop lamps remain illuminated when the brakes are not being applied; or2. Loss of engine power; or3. The driver may be able to shift the vehicle out of park or start the engine without depressing the brake pedal.This increases the risk of an accident and injury or death to vehicle occupants or other road users.

The remedy

Nissan will contact affected consumers in writing. Consumers will be advised to contact their Nissan Dealer to organise the inspection and, if necessary, re-positioning of the stop lamp switch and replacement of the stop lamp relay, at no cost.Consumers can find their nearest dealership at https://www.nissan.com.au/find-a-dealerFor further information, consumers can contact the Nissan Customer Service Centre on 1800 035 035 (Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6:00pm AEST).
