The defect
In certain vehicles, the Owner's Manual supplied contains an error relating to the description of the rear door child lock function where the locked and unlocked positions are incorrectly indicated.
The hazard
If the incorrect information within the Owner's Manual is followed by the consumer, this may lead to potential misuse of the rear door child lock. However on the vehicle itself, the function of the child safety door lock is according to specification with the indication on the door itself showing the correct locking direction. Consumers are able to confirm the lock is engaged by pulling the interior door handle.
The remedy
Infiniti Cars Australia will contact affected owners in writing from the beginning of January 2019 requesting that they book an appointment with their preferred Infiniti dealer. An Owner's Manual addendum containing the correct child lock information will be fitted to the Owner's Manual free of charge. For further information, consumers should contact an Infiniti Dealer or the Infiniti Customer Service Centre on 1800 241 193 and select Infiniti Cars Australia (option 2).
