The defect

During manufacture the airbag control unit may not have been secured to the vehicle correctly and may either deploy occupant restraint systems unnecessarily, or fail to deploy occupant restraint systems in the event of an accident.

The hazard

If occupant restraint systems are not deployed in the event of an accident, the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants would be significantly increased. Unnecessary deployment of occupant restraint systems may injure vehicle occupants.
