The defect

There is a possiblity of the carpet mat slipping towards the cpntrol pedals, consequently interfering with the operation of the throttle pedal. In the worst case, the carpet mat could impeded the throttle pedal from returning to it's original closed position when the driver's foot is removed and as a result the vehicle will continue to accelerate.
