The defect

Due to a manufacturing defect, the passenger airbag may tear during deployment. This could cause hot gases to escape from the airbag at high speed and result in insufficient protection to the passenger.

In the event of an accident, the airbag not deploying as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.
