The defect
Due to its installation position, if there is liquid or liquid droplets spilt on the rear seat bench the control unit for network management may become damaged and fail.A failure of the electronic control unit may have various effects on the vehicle functions. Restricted functions are indicated by warning messages in the instrument cluster.Possible restricted functions could be:Engine – The engine enters emergency running mode and continues running with reduced performance.Gearbox – The automatic gearbox interrupts the power flow in the drive train.Steering – The steering reduces the steering assistance in stages; it may therefore be necessary to use more force to turn the steering wheel as the vehicle slows down.
The hazard
A failure of the Gateway Control Unit will increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.
The remedy
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Audi Australia Pty Ltd and are asked to arrange with their nearest authorised Audi dealership to have the work carried out free of charge.
