The defect

The wire harness for the electric power steering may be damaged, resulting in the insulation on the wire harness becoming damaged over the service life of the vehicle.

The hazard

The damage can result in a short circuit or can cause the electric power steering to stop working. In some cases, the short circuit can also run down the starter battery and the vehicle may not start. This may lead to a higher risk of an accident or injury to the vehicle occupants and other road users.
