Verify before you act. Recall details and remedies can change. Our database is updated regularly but may not reflect the most recent revisions. Always confirm with vehiclerecalls.gov.au or your vehicle manufacturer before acting on the information below. Read our full disclaimer.

The defect

The routing of the starter motor cable may be incorrect and as a result, could contact the engine mounting.

The hazard

If the starter motor cable is in contact with, or in close proximity to the engine mounting, the vibration of the engine can cause the outer sheathing of the cable to wear through, exposing the wires. The continued use of the vehicle with exposed wires may cause subsequent arching and a short circuit that could result in illumination of a warning light on the instrument panel, possible vehicle stalling, melting of the battery cable sheathing and surrounding parts that could lead to smoke from under the bonnet and in extreme circumstances, an under-bonnet fire.

The remedy

Owners of affected vehicles will notified and instructed to take their vehicle to an Authorised Retailer who will inspect the routing of the starter motor cable and where appropriate re-route and/or replace the component if damage is observed.
