The defect

The driver airbag performance is outside of the required specification for time to inflate due to a malformed canister. In this condition, the flow of the gas generated for airbag deployment is not controlled as required.

The hazard

In the event of a crash where the driver's airbag is required to deploy, the driver will not be fully protected by the airbag as per design intent and could be exposed to an increased risk of injury.

The remedy

Owners will be notified and instructed to take their vehicle to a preferred Authorised Retailer who will replace the driver's airbag.
