The defect

The fleece filter insert in the oil separator of the engine breather system could become blocked with residues over time and cause the crankcase to become pressurised. Should this occur, engine oil may be forced out into the engine compartment and come into contact with the hot engine components.

The remedy

Make arrangements with their authorised Mercedes-Benz Dealership to have the oil separator replaced with a cyclone type as a precautionary measure, and at the same time the software in the engine control unit optimised to the latest version. All work carried out will be free of charge.
