The defect

Cracks may develop in the steering idler arm after an extended period of operation. In an extreme case, a cracked steering idler arm may break without warning and cause a loss of steering control.

It is most important that the vehicles are inspected. Where a crack in the steering idler arm is detected, you should immediately remove that vehicle from service and notify Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific Pty Ltd.
