The defect

The gear recognition function in the transmission may not function as intended in some vehicles.This may cause the reversing lamp to stop working until the next ignition change, or the next engine start.

The hazard

Loss of reverse lights may reduce the visibility of the vehicle and provide no indication that the vehicle is reversing, increasing the risk of an accident leading to serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or pedestrians.
