The defect

Over time the side stand could work loose, causing it to become unattached from the motorcycle. Additionally, the side stand switch may not work reliably and the engine will not shut down when the motorcycle is in gear and the side stand is in the down position.

The hazard

The side stand safety switch may fail to prevent the engine from running with the side stand down, potentially causing an accident if a rider forgets to raise the stand before moving off.Also, a loose or detached side stand may cause the motorcylce to fall onto the rider when parking.

The remedy

Consumers should contact an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer, or call the BMW Group Australia Customer Interaction Centre on Freecall 1 800 813 299.
