The defect

The coupling may fail when a vertical load of three tonne is applied to the coupling head and may result in the trailer detaching from the tow vehicle.

The hazard

If the trailer detaches from the tow vehicle, it may increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, bystanders, and other road users.

The remedy

Return the coupling to All States Trailer Spares (ASTSS) for immediate replacement or contact ASTSS to arrange for a replacement to be provided.
