The defect

The Shift lock holder may have been produced out of specification, as a result the shift lock mechanism may not return to the locked position allowing the gear selector to be moved from park without depressing the brake pedal.

The hazard

If the gear selector is unintentionally moved out of park without depressing the brake pedal, it may result in a vehicle to roll-away potentially increasing the risk of injury or death to occupants or other road users.

The remedy

Owners can contact their local Kia dealership to schedule an appointment to have the shifter mechanism inspected, free of charge.
