The defect

Due to manufacturing issue, the engine compartment cover may become loose. If this occurs the engine cover may move and touch the turbocharger resulting in smouldering damage or an engine bay fire.

A vehicle fire may increase the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, bystanders and/or damage to property.

The remedy

Owners of affected vehicles can contact their authorised Volkswagen Dealer to schedule an appointment to have the work carried out at no cost.
