The defect
Due to improper installation of the fuel pump retaining rings they may crack and result in a fuel leak. There is an additional risk of damage due to heat exposure from the engine and exhaust pipe with the RX-8 model.

The hazard
A fuel leak at the fuel tank may result in an underbody fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders.
The remedy
Mazda Australia will contact all affected owners and advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda Dealer for replacement of the fuel pump retaining rings at no charge.
