The defect

Certain Volkswagen Passat, Golf and Arteon models of a limited production period may have had the rear wheel bearing housing manufactured with an insufficient case hardening.

The hazard

A possible fracture of a wheel bearing housing could significantly impair the road holding of the vehicle, posing an accident hazard to the vehicle occupants.

The remedy
