The defect

Defective steering shafts may have been installed in certain vehicles. These steering shafts may have insufficient tooth flank depth in the serrations for the required power transmission between steering column and steering shaft.

The hazard

This may result in the connection between steering column and steering shaft slipping, impairing vehicle steerability, increasing the risk of accident.

The remedy

Owners are requested to contact an authorised Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealership to have their vehicle inspected and if required, have the steering shaft replaced.
