The defect

During normal vehicle operation, the parking brake cable could disengage from the rear brake calliper, causing the parking brake to become inoperative.

The hazard

If the parking brake does not engage and the transmission is left in a gear other than 'park', the vehicle could roll away, increasing the risk of an accident or cause an injury.

The remedy

Affected Prius owners will be contacted by mail at their last known address, inviting them to make an appointment with their preferred Toyota Dealer to have the repair carried out free of charge.
