The defect

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has identified that insufficient anti corrosion coating was applied to the end cap on the outer tube of the tailgate gas springs, and this may result in corrosion.

The hazard

Corrosion may result in the end cap breaking and hitting the operator and/or the tailgate falling down suddenly and this may result in an injury or a potential accident.

The remedy

Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact all known owners by mail and advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred dealer to have replacement parts installed, free of charge.Consumers who require further information should contact Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1300 1312 11 or contact their preferred dealer via https://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au/customer-assistance/locate-a-service-centre#Please note: The replacement parts (non-cosmetic) are silver in colour to assist in identification and avoid supply delays.
