The defect

There is a possibility that during the manufacturing process of the vehicle the adhesive used to secure the steering pinion gear to the steering gear assembly had insufficient strength.

The hazard

The pinion gear may separate from the steering gear assembly causing loss of steering control and posing an accident hazard for the driver and other road users.

The remedy

Owners should contact their preferred Kia dealer to schedule an appointment and have the steering rack inspected and rectified.
