The defect

In certain affected vehicles, the intermediate steering shaft weld may not meet required specifications, which may cause the steering column to detach from the steering gear.

The hazard

This condition could result in a loss of steering, increasing the risk of accident or injury.

The remedy

Dealers will inspect the intermediate steering shaft weld and replace the shaft if the weld fails the inspection. Ford will write to owners of all affected vehicles. Owners are advised to contact their Ford authorised Dealership for inspection and rectification.
